This charming hunt country cottage already embodied the timeless charm that we hope to add to most of the houses we design. The goal is an addition that added more gathering space and a proper master suite to the home, but the challenge was connecting these spaces to multiple floor levels that had been added over the years.
The extension of the Living area and the Stair brings symmetry to the facade and a sense of completeness to the exterior. Inside, the addition creates a welcoming gathering space centered around a fireplace connected to the Kitchen by a new Butler’s pantry. Previously, a tight and steep staircase led up to the attic guest room; with the new addition, the stair was reimagined in a more natural location, opening the entry to the original house and enhancing circulation throughout the home. Upstairs the attic loft now features a guest bath.
Every detail, from proportion and light to the continuity of materials was considered to ensure the new addition feels as though it has always been part of the original home.
